Our Living Room Practical Supports Volunteer
Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre, Health Sciences Centre, St. John's

Volunteers will assist people living with cancer find appropriate practical supports such as wigs, turbans, and breast prosthesis at the "Our Living Room", our practical support resource room at the H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre. This room is run by the Canadian Cancer Society, through the Cancer Centre. All volunteers working in this room must complete Eastern Health volunteer orientation as well as CCS training.


Key Responsibilities:
- To arrive at "Our Living Room" on time for your assigned shift
- Ensure that "Our Living Room" is kept tidy and that practical supports are kept orderly
- Offer assistance to all those who enter the room
- Record all supports that are given out on appropriate form
- Advise programs staff responsible for "Our Living Room" if there is a need for further supplies
- Become Familiar with the programs and services provided by the Cancer Society and share these resources
- Advise Community Services Manager of any dates that you will be unavailable to volunteer during your regular weekly shift
" Adhere to all Canadian Cancer Society policies, procedures, standards and guidelines
- Maintain confidentiality at all times

Orientation: An orientation to Eastern Health will be provided by the Coordinator of Volunteer Resources. An orientation to the assigned area will be provided by the unit or area staff or designate as required. All volunteers are required to attend these orientation sessions prior to beginning any volunteer assignment.

Training: Additional training for this assignment will be provided as required by designated staff.


Attire: Comfortable and professional clothing, volunteer uniform (if provided) and Eastern Health issued identification badge.

Evaluation: Your open and honest feedback about your volunteer experience is encouraged. Consult the coordinator for Volunteer Resources about your experience, expectations and concerns.

Safety: Safety is a priority for Eastern Health. Volunteers must ensure that safety for patients, residents, clients, employees and themselves is paramount in the workplace. Any and all safety concerns must be reported to the unit staff or the coordinator for Volunteer Resources immediately.
