Job Summary
This is an advanced, clinical practice and leadership position providing social work services and couples specific counselling to clients of the Mental Health and Addictions Program in the West End of the city and surrounding areas. This position works in an interdisciplinary team which provides individual, group, couples and family counselling for a wide array of mental health issues in a Stepped Care Service Delivery Model. The Social Worker provides therapy using a broad range of theoretical frameworks and professional analysis of complex situations. The Social Worker may provide consultation to other areas of the mental health program. This position exercises a significant degree of independent clinical judgment in determining appropriate intervention strategies and in developing, implementing and evaluating treatment goals for individuals, couples and families. Group work may also be a requirement. Other duties may include: education, advocacy and research. This position reports to the Program Manager for the West End Mental Health and Addictions Team and maintains accountability to the Social Work Professional Practice Consultant for professional integrity and practice issues.

Job Demands

Occasionally there is lifting or physical strength required to carry boxes of resources/materials, flip charts and audio-visual equipment up to 15 lbs.
Occasionally work demands result in considerable fatigue requiring periods of rest.
Constantly sits to work on the computer or to drive to meetings.
Regularly uses fine finger/precision work to enter information into computer systems.
Visual and auditory concentration is required when reviewing client files/notes and for documenting work into computerized systems.
A higher than normal level of attentiveness and carefulness is required when assessing clients, especially those who may be at a high risk, in order to ensure their health and safety, staff's safety, and to prevent any possible dangers or hazards from happening.
Lack of control over the work pace and time pressures can occur when completing assessments, case documentation and workload reports, managing emergency and routine appointments within the allocated timeframe.
Occasionally there are interruptions due to a crisis situation.

Job Qualifications
Master's Degree in Social Work with a Clinical Specialization is required.
Registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Social Workers is required.
A minimum of five (5) years' experience within the last seven (7) working as a Social Worker in Mental Health is required.
Experience in couples counselling is preferred.
Exceptional interpersonal/communication skills, strong organizational and leadership abilities and the ability to work independently and as part of a team is also required.
Candidates must have advanced clinical assessment skills, advanced intervention skills and therapy with individuals, groups and families, clinical practice evaluation and research/design methodology required.
A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver's License and the use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
