Job Summary
This position provides technical direction in the Mass Spectrometry Laboratory within the Biochemistry Division. In addition, the incumbent provides education in theory and operating training for sample preparation, chromatography, mass spectrometry, and data processing to technologists in the Biochemistry Department. This position functions as a technical expert, involved in the development, evaluation and review of the performance, and subsequent training of lab technologists for highly specialized tests and procedures, employing such technologies as Gas Chromatography coupled to Flame Ionization Detector (GC-FID) or to Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), Liquid Chromatography Coupled to Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), and subsequently overseeing any quality issues, including but not limited to the trouble shooting assays and analyzer maintenance related to the implementation of newly developed and existing test in the mass spectrometry laboratory.

Job Qualifications

Minimum of a Master of Science Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics or equivalent is required.

Demonstrated experience with method development, especially involving LC-MS/MS and GC-MS.
Demonstrated experience in Analytical Chemistry, Mass Spectrometry, and Liquid Chromatography.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
Familiarity with a range of analytical instrumentation and biochemical methods including on-the-job experience with electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, solid-phase extraction, HPLC and /or UHPLC, and Amino Acid Analysis.

Demonstrated experience in using computers, software, operational systems, and databases.

A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
