Job Summary
The Mental Health Social Worker is responsible for providing clinical services including mental health assessment and therapeutic intervention to children, adolescents, adults and families within a community mental health setting. This may entail the provision of outreach clinics. Duties may also include participation in mental health promotion and community mobilization. The Social Worker will be expected to provide field instruction for Social Work students.

This position maintains accountability to the Social Work Professional Practice Consultant for professional integrity and practice issues.

Job Demands

Occasionally, there is lifting or physical strength required to lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs.
Regularly sits to consult with clients, conduct therapeutic sessions, and to work on the computer.
Occasionally works in awkward or cramped body positions; pushes, pulls, and sets up furniture for group work, and drives to conduct home visits with clients.
Regularly uses fine-finger/precision work on a computer.

Job Qualifications
Bachelors or Master's degree in Social Work from a recognized university.
Registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Social Workers is required.
Two (2) years' mental health experience within the last 5 years in a hospital or community mental health setting (addictions experience may also be considered).
Knowledge of community development and strong clinical skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills and experience in providing direct mental health interventions with youth and families is required.
Working knowledge of computers and computer software would be an asset.
Ability to work independently.
The use of a private vehicle is a condition for employment as travel in the region may be required.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
