Job Summary
A para-medically trained individual who performs highly complex technical work which requires advanced clinical knowledge of photography, especially Ocular Photography; knowledge of both standard and digital-based photographic techniques, material, processes and equipment.
This individual assists the Ophthalmologist in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disease by independently performing photographic procedures and other Ophthalmic test, examinations and investigations and by assisting the physician with minor surgical procedures. The incumbent is responsible to serve as a mentor and to provide technical expertise to the less experienced Photography Technician (Ophthalmology).

Job Demands

Lifting and moving of ophthalmic equipment weighing up to 10 lbs occurs occasionally. Infrequently required to move patients from wheelchairs to stretchers.
Work involves standing and walking constantly to perform diagnostic eye tests and related duties, often in cramped positions.
Fine finger or precision work is required to operate ophthalmic photography camera and related testing equipment.
Visual concentration is required to observe patients during testing to ensure proper positioning and steadiness, to assist Ophthalmologist as required and to operate various equipment.

Job Qualifications
Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Successful completion of a recognized/approved Ophthalmology Assistant program is required.
Current certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant is required.
A minimum two years of experience within the last four working in an Ophthalmology service is required.
A minimum two years of experience within the last four in photography or medical/biomedical photography including experience in standard and digital-based techniques, work processes and equipment is required.
Membership/certification in Certified Retinal Angiography (CRA) and/or National certification of Ophthalmic Photographers is required.
Credentialing of photography from a recognized Photographic Reading Centre preferred.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
