Eastern Health's cyclotron is located at the Nuclear and Molecular Medicine facility (Health Sciences Centre). Production of 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose, commonly referred to as FDG, began at the Health Sciences Centre in November 2020. The radiopharmaceutical sciences (RPS) team is responsible for manufacturing medical isotopes and radiopharmaceuticals through the use of a cyclotron (particle accelerator).
Eastern Health holds a Class II license for the operation of the cyclotron, issued by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC).

Job Summary
The Medical Imaging Physicist with the Medical Imaging program will support clinical services in Nuclear and Molecular Medicine and Medical imaging through the development of educational, research and technical programs. The Medical Imaging Physicist will be responsible for providing quality assurance, testing and calibration for all nuclear medicine equipment, bone density equipment, ancillary support equipment, and equipment within the Radiopharmaceutical Sciences service; developing and implementing novel imaging techniques; developing and implementing data analysis methodologies; and conducting radiation dose calculations. S/he will take a lead role in the Corporate Radiation Safety and Quality Assurance Committees to promote best practices throughout Eastern Health. The Medical Imaging Physicist must be eligible for Class II Radiation Safety Officer CNSC certification, and to assume RSO responsibilities for the Nuclear Medicine program. The Medical Imaging Physicist will develop and maintain an active research program and teach at the technical, graduate, and post-graduate levels, as needed. A part-time clinical appointment with Memorial University Facility of Medicine in the Discipline of Radiology to support research and teaching activities may be offered.

Job Qualifications
Successful completion of an accredited MSc or PhD in Medical Physics is required.
Eligible for Certification in Nuclear Medicine Physics by the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM) is required (eligible for Certification as a Diplomat of the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or of the American Board of Medical Physics is considered equivalent).
Demonstrated a strong commitment to high clinical standards.
Demonstrated strong interpersonal, leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
