Job Summary
Under the direction of a nurse the Safety and Security Monitor provides one-to-one observation/surveillance to patients who have been assessed as a safety risk to themselves or others; assists with select activities of daily living and reports unsafe conditions or changes in patient behaviors to the nurse. Safety and Security Monitors also provide close observation/surveillance to a patient who is transitioning from constant observation. Patients who may require observation/surveillance include individuals who are at risk for falls, have the potential for elopement, are non-complaint with therapy and show signs of confusion, agitation or dementia.
Job Demands
By applying for this job, you acknowledge an understanding that regular requirements and demands of this job include (but are not limited to):
Occasionally lifts objects up to 10 lbs.
Occasionally, as deemed appropriate by the assigned nurse, would assist patients with daily living activities.
Constantly sits with patients/clients, but occasionally may have to walk or stand.
Constantly there is a high level of attentiveness to sit and observe a patient's/resident's behaviour where there is limited freedom to move about as patients/residents are never left unattended.
Occasionally, sits in awkward or cramped positions for extended periods.
Job Qualifications
Graduate from high school or equivalent.
Successful completion of post-secondary coursework in a health-related field from a recognized college/university or relevant health care experience as deemed equivalent by the employer is required.
Knowledge of disabilities, diseases and their implications for personal care.
Demonstrated strong observation and judgement skills.
Demonstrated strong communication and documentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with members of the interdisciplinary team.
Demonstrated ability to observe and report conditions as instructed.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
