Job Summary
The CTG Technologist reports to the Laboratory Operations Manager. The CTG Technologist will perform a variety of specialized molecular diagnostic procedures primarily Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) on patient samples to provide accurate diagnostic and treatment information. These duties include but are not limited to nucleic acid extraction, library preparation, NGS sequencing and Sanger Sequencing. The Technologist will recognize abnormal findings, determine the need for further testing and respond according to laboratory guidelines. The Technologist will operate and maintain equipment in accordance with established procedures and protocols, participate in quality control/quality assurance measures and assist in the validation of new assays. Other related duties as required.

Constantly lifts/moves objects less than 10 lbs and occasionally objects up to 30 lbs.
Constantly stands, sometimes for extended periods, or sits for extended periods requiring constant repetitive movement. Also, constant bending or stretching and working in awkward positions.
Constantly requires fine finger and precision work and requires the use of gross motor skills to perform with accurate control and steadiness.
Visual concentration is required when performing procedures and auditory concentration is required to communicate and give information, to listen for alarms, timers, etc.
Job Qualifications
Graduation from a recognized (accredited) program with a diploma in Clinical Genetics Technology is required.
Current registration, or eligible for registration, with the NL Council of Health Professionals is required.
Minimum of three years of technical experience within the last five years in molecular genetics including, but not limited to, performing testing, assay quality control and maintenance OR completion of an approved nationally accredited training program with teachings or competencies in next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology within the last two years, is required.
Experience in both NGS and Sanger sequencing, including strong technological knowledge and effective troubleshooting of molecular genetic tests focused on sequencing, is required.
Experience in HGVS nomenclature, variant annotation, and knowledge of next-generation sequencing bioinformatics is required.
Experience using Microsoft office (Word and Excel) is required.
Experience using Meditech (or equivalent), Alissa Clinical Informatics Platform (or equivalent), Human Genome Mutation Database (HGMD) and PubMed is an asset.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and as part of a robust team.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
