Job Summary

The Lifestyle Clinic provides services to children and adolescents who struggle with obesity. Families are heavily involved in this service which is provided on an outpatient basis by a multidisciplinary team. Services will be offered in both individual and group formats, but the majority of the intervention is provided through a 12-week structured group program for children, adolescents and their families.

The psychologist has a leadership role in coordinating the team in planning, implementing and evaluating the assessment, treatment and follow-up components of the program. The psychologist has the first contact with the patient and family to determine readiness for the program and will make recommendations about what services are most appropriate at that time. The psychologist will be responsible for providing psychometric assessment as necessary and providing individual and group treatment as part of the Lifestyles Team.

Duties
Organize and coordinate traveling clinics twice per year.
Organize and maintain telehealth list.
Ongoing development of paediatric healthcare professional network for prevention of chronic disease, including developing online learning modules and producing "Be the Wave" newsletter three times a year.
Respond to program requests locally, provincially and nationally. Facilitate connections to team members, as needed.
Attend assessment and follow up clinic as needed.
Provide brief individual therapy as needed.
Develop specialty groups and workshops in collaboration with team as needed.
Lead program in meeting identified goals as outlined in strategic plan.
Orientate new staff.
Deliver orientation sessions to parents of new referrals.
Attend travelling clinics as coordinator and clinician.
Work with research analyst on client database, new and ongoing research.
Responds to government requests for information and development.
Maintains partnerships with other agencies on health promotion and research, evaluation.
Compile and report program stats and maintain clinical activity database.
Organize and chair team meetings.
Maintain local and provincial partnerships in ongoing initiatives.
Conduct health promotion activities related to chronic disease prevention, including presenting to other professionals.

As a clinical coordinator, the Clinical Psychologist provides clinical direction to working level psychologists and supervision to provisionally registered psychologists at the doctoral level. This position reports to the Division Manager and maintains accountability to the Professional Practice Consultant for Psychology for professional integrity issues.

Occasionally, there is lifting or physical strength required, less than 10 lbs for files, boxes, or equipment.
Regularly sits; occasionally works in awkward/cramped positions, and stands to facilitate or teach groups.
Uses fine finger/precision work when on the computer and visual concentration is required when in sessions with patients (i.e. reviewing patient charts/notes, tests and for documenting work, and when reading or researching information).
Visual concentration is required to interpret patient observations and integrate into patient evaluation.
Auditory concentration is constantly required in sessions with patients to listen attentively, to be alert and to obtain and interpret information correctly.
A higher than normal level of attentiveness is required when assessing high risk patients.

Job Qualifications
Graduation with an approved/recognized Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology is required.
Registration or provisional registration with Newfoundland and Labrador Psychology Board is required.
Graduate course work and supervised experience in Child and Adolescent Psychopathology is required.
Experience working with child and adult treatment groups, as well as individual and family work is required.
Previous experience supervising Doctoral level residents is preferred.
Exhibited strong communication, program development and evaluation skills.
Possessed strong leadership and supervisory skills that are focused on engaging others and developing coalitions.
Demonstrated ability to provide strong and comprehensive clinical support, training and mentorship to Clinical Psychologists II's and other supervisees.
Possessed strong analytical, critical reasoning, collaboration, problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to effectively translate and communicate knowledge in the specialized area of psychology practice to others.
Demonstrated ability to conduct research, deliver lectures/clinical education sessions and provide clinical direction and consultation within an interprofessional environment.
Ability to work autonomously, prioritizing caseloads and client needs.
Demonstrated ability and willingness to participle in the clinical training activities of the psychology discipline.
Demonstrated strong awareness of ethical principles and standards of professional conduct.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.

*Current internal Clinical Psychologists who possess an approved/recognized Master Degree in Clinical Psychology will be considered for this position.
