Job Summary
This position works in the field of Orthotics in the assessment and treatment of clients with physical and neurological disabilities, and includes the design, fabrication and fitting of suitable orthoses. The successful candidate will provide intervention to a wide range of patients in inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation environments. The candidate will be required to independently manage a client caseload providing exposure to a variety of disabilities or illnesses requiring the use of all basic prosthetic skills.
Functioning as a member of the interdisciplinary team, the Prosthetist/Orthotist IIA consults with other health professionals and makes recommendations regarding the clients' overall rehabilitation program. This includes the provision of client education and the provision of advice and guidance as to the design, limitations and use of orthoses. The successful candidate will also provide training to clinical students and interns as well as technical staff.
Work is performed with considerable independence and initiative and is evaluated through conferences, chart audits and evaluation of results obtained.
Job Demands

Regularly lifts a variety of materials up to 25lbs and occasionally over 50lbs, such as lifting heavy casts and other products. Many of the items are awkwardly shaped, making lifting and moving difficult.
Physical effort includes constant standing to perform work tasks, being placed in awkward positions and crawling to verify the stability and safety of the client when wearing the device.
Auditory concentration includes listening to multiple stakeholders while working in a noisy environment.
Must exercise higher than normal levels of attentiveness when working with shop equipment to ensure safety.
Required to work under deadlines to have devices ready for clients.
Job Qualifications
Graduation from a recognized Prosthetic/Orthotic clinical program is required.
Current and continuing Certification by Orthotics Prosthetics Canada is required.
Experience as an Orthotist in an Orthotic laboratory is required.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
*Relocation Assistance may be provided in accordance with the Eastern Health Relocation Expenses policy.
If there are no certified applicants, a training opportunity is available. Consideration may be given to applicants who are student residents to be hired as a Prosthetist/Orthotist I for a period of two years. Once certified, the Prosthetist/Orthotist I will be eligible for a Prosthetist/Orthotist IIA position.
