Job Summary
The Centre for Nursing Studies (CNS) is the largest nursing school in Newfoundland and Labrador. Programs offered include a four-year BScN (Collaborative) Program and a LPN Bridging option, offered in partnership with MUN Faculty of Nursing and Western Regional School of Nursing, a five-semester Practical Nursing Program, Re-entry Programs for RNs and LPNs, an IEN Bridging Program and Post-Basic Courses/Programs for RNs and LPNs.
Applications are invited for the permanent full-time position of Nursing Instructor I (NS-30). The successful applicant will secure clinical placements for all nursing programs. The successful applicant may be required to facilitate teaching and of clinical and lab courses in all nursing programs offered by the CNS.
The position responsibilities include: obtains clinical placements and preceptors for nursing students. Uses HSPnet to coordinate clinical placements and preceptors and works as part of a team with clinical placement coordinators at other sites of nursing programs; recommends and monitors student funding for clinical placements; works with health care organizations and Eastern Health to develop and obtain clinical placement agreements/contracts, and recommends these agreements to the Director; provides in-services related to student placements to nurses and preceptors at clinical sites in collaboration with other faculty members. Some travel may be required within the province. The successful applicant may also participate in the clinical and lab teaching and evaluation of students; faculty development; participation on CNS and other relevant committees; and contribution to professional activities. Constantly uses fine finger/precision, auditory, sensory and visual concentration to provide and conduct risk assessments, observe/monitor patients, to complete documents, follow directions, administer medications, etc.
May be subject to time pressures/deadlines and subject to lack of control over work pace.
Job Qualifications
Graduation from an approved/recognized post-secondary nursing education program with a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is required.
Current and continuing practicing license with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL) is required.
A minimum of three years of experience within the last five working in an adult medical-surgical and/or pediatric clinical practice area with at least one year of experience either as a teacher of entry-level or formal post-basic nursing education programs*, or, three years of experience working as a nursing instructor teaching nursing students is required.
Experience coordinating student clinical placements, or experience working in a role responsible for coordinating programs or services with multiple stakeholders including external partners, is required.
Demonstrated knowledge of instructional development, delivery and evaluation and demonstrated clinical expertise.
Demonstrated ability to provide strong and comprehensive clinical support, training and mentorship to students.
Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills as demonstrated by presentations, facilitations and report-writing.
Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and able to work both collaboratively and with a high degree of independence and initiative.
Demonstrated effective time-management skills and the ability to prioritize.
Possess proven leadership skills.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
*Teaching experience must include experience teaching lab and clinical, or as an adult educator. This would include experience with adult education course design, development and evaluation in a health care setting.
