Job Summary
The Clinical Psychologist III provides an advanced and specialized psychology service to the clients of Correctional Health Services in Eastern Health. This position acts on referrals from clients themselves, or other healthcare providers. Standardized assessment and therapeutic interventions are provided to patients across the lifespan, with a wide range of complex needs including, but not limited to, anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, ADHD, Concurrent Mental Health Disorder and personality disorders.

The responsibilities include designing, implementing and evaluating the psychological interventions provided to patients; conducting advanced, independent diagnostic interviews to expedite the formulation of an appropriate treatment approach; writing comprehensive psychological reports, formulating and communicating psychiatric diagnosis using DSM-5; selecting and administrating comprehensive psychometric tests where appropriate, including but not limited to, intellectual assessment, personality assessment, neuropsychological screening, memory assessment, vocational/aptitude testing, and risk to reoffend; interpreting psychological data for diagnostic purposes; conducting group facilitation; and monitoring/prioritizing patient wait lists according to clinical needs.

Other duties specific to Corrections include providing testimony as an expert forensic psychology witness in the courts or review board hearings in support of psychological assessments by researching, studying, and understanding complex legal and clinical issues related to psychological assessment and treatment with forensic populations; maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of forensic psychology issues and expertise in risk assessment and risk management tools and the relationship to forensic populations; and provide virtual consultation as required to other provincial correctional facilities.

As a clinical leader, the Clinical Psychologist provides supervision to Psychology residents, Doctoral students and provisionally registered Psychologists. This position reports to the Operations Manager and maintains accountability to the Professional Practice Consultant for Psychology for professional integrity issues.

Occasionally provides testimony as an expert witness in court hearings which requires the ability to withstand examination and cross examination.
Regularly exposed to volatile clients whose behavior is sometimes unpredictable.
Regularly counsels incarcerated individuals without a Correctional Officer present (panic button is provided).
Regularly maintains a safe environment for self and others when client is under stress/duress.
Uses fine finger/precision work when on the computer and visual concentration is required when in sessions with patients (i.e. reviewing patient charts/notes, tests and for documenting work, and when reading or researching information).
Visual concentration is required to interpret patient observations and integrate into patient evaluation.
Auditory concentration is constantly required in sessions with patients to listen attentively, to be alert and to obtain and interpret information correctly.
A higher-than-normal level of attentiveness is required when assessing high risk patients.

Job Qualifications
Graduation with an approved/recognized master's degree in Clinical Psychology is required.
Current and continuing registration or provisional registration with Newfoundland and Labrador Psychology Board is required.
Minimum of two years of experience within the last four years working in the mental health and addictions field with clients experiencing severe and persistent mental illness and concurrent disorders in an unpredictable environment is required.
Experience working in a Corrections setting, or with clients who have been incarcerated is preferred.
Graduate course work and supervised experience in psychological assessment including cognitive and diagnostic assessment in individuals with concurrent mental health illnesses, and substance use disorders is required.
Graduate course work and supervised experience in evidence-based therapy with individuals, families and groups with a specific focus on mental health issues is required.
Previous experience supervising Doctoral level residents is preferred.
Exhibited strong communication, program development and evaluation skills.
Possessed strong leadership and supervisory skills that are focused on engaging others and developing coalitions.
Demonstrated ability to provide strong and comprehensive clinical support, training and mentorship to Clinical Psychologists II's and other supervisees.
Possessed strong analytical, critical reasoning, collaboration, problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to effectively translate and communicate knowledge in the specialized area of psychology practice to others.
Demonstrated ability to conduct research, deliver lectures/clinical education sessions and provide clinical direction and consultation within an interprofessional environment.
Ability to work autonomously, prioritizing caseloads and client needs.
Demonstrated ability and willingness to participle in the clinical training activities of the psychology discipline.
Demonstrated strong awareness of ethical principles and standards of professional conduct.
Use of a personal vehicle is a condition of employment.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
