Job Summary
As a member of an interdisciplinary team, the Psychiatric Registered Nurse I provides quality nursing care to clients of Addictions Services including the Recovery Centre, Methadone Clinic and other services that may be developed. Responsible for assessing the effects of chemical dependency and/or pathological gambling; evaluating the degree of intoxication/withdrawal; implementing treatment protocols, including direct nursing care and managing client care; assisting clients in exploring alternatives to chemical/gambling use and in developing personal care plans; providing education; co-facilitating group counseling sessions and providing support for families and significant others when needed. The Psychiatric Registered Nurse will consult and work in partnership with other professionals and community groups. Work is performed in accordance with professional nursing standards and the policies of the organization.
Job Demands

Constantly moves/lifts up to 10 lbs., regularly moves/lifts up to 25 lbs. and occasionally is required to restrain/reposition/move/lift up to 30 lbs. Pushes/pulls up to medium force.
Constantly stands/walks and works in awkward or cramped positions to assist with procedures.
Constantly uses fine finger/precision, auditory, sensory and visual concentration to provide and conduct risk assessments, observe/monitor patients, to complete documents, follow directions, administer medications, etc.
May be subject to time pressures/deadlines and subject to lack of control over work pace.
Job Qualifications
Graduation from an approved/recognized post-secondary nursing education program, supplemented by a Post-Basic course or CNA Certification in Psychiatric Nursing or a Bachelor of Nursing degree is required.
A current practicing license with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL).
Current certification in BCLS is required.
Minimum of one year of experience in acute care mental health including and/or combined with experience in medical withdrawal management is required.
Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and work both collaboratively and with a high degree of independence and initiative.
Demonstrated strong case management, analytical, communication, problem-solving and organization skills.
Demonstrated strong knowledge of assessment, treatment planning and supportive counseling techniques.
Demonstrated strong knowledge of the addictions field specifically as it relates to best practices in withdrawal management and methadone maintenance treatment; understanding of programs/services and community resources.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
