Job Summary
This position works within the Nurse Practitioner's (NP) scope of practice in the following category of practice: Adult/Family All Ages. This is an advanced practice role providing professional, analytical and comprehensive support to a range of health services for clients and patients. The NP functions as an autonomous professional member of the consultation liaison team. This position conducts initial and ongoing complex mental health assessments of patients within the acute care programs of Eastern Health. Based on the patient's history and physical examination, the NP determines diagnosis and initiates appropriate treatment to optimize medical/mental health outcomes. The NP is responsible for ordering diagnostic testing, laboratory testing and prescribing medications as deemed appropriate. Also conducts ongoing assessment and optimization of chronic disease processes. The incumbent will facilitate transfers to appropriate settings or arrange community based follow up as required. This is a role that works collaboratively within the inter-professional team to provide comprehensive primary health care (Health promotion, disease prevention, supportive, curative, and rehabilitative) to this population.

Constantly moves, lifts, or operates equipment/machinery up to 10 lbs. and regularly is required to lift/move equipment, books, supplies. Occasionally, may have to reposition a patient over 50 lbs.
Physical effort also includes regular sitting to conduct patient histories, performing work on the computer and when assessing patients, regularly stands or walks.
When performing procedures, regularly uses fine finger/precision work and hand tools (i.e. medical instruments, computer mouse, stethoscope, dopplers, etc.) requiring accurate control and steadiness.
Visual concentration is required when performing physical assessment and procedures, completing charts/reports, observing patients, reading equipment/monitors, and completing work-related correspondence on the computer.
Job Qualifications
Completion of an approved/recognized Nurse Practitioner program is required.
Current and continuing registration with the College of Registered Nurses of NL and Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a Nurse Practitioner (Adult/Family All Ages) with the CRNNL.
A minimum of five years of clinical experience out of the last seven years including a minimum of two years' experience with adult patients in high acuity medical and surgical settings with comorbid mental health disorders and addictions is required.
Experience in Mental Health and Addiction is an asset.
Current in BLS is required.
Canadian Nurses Association certification in "Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing" is an asset.
Assist training (Suicide intervention Course) and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention are assets.
Knowledge of the Mental Health Care and Treatment Act is a requirement.
Demonstrated progressive clinical leadership skills and excellent communication skills.
Possessed strong abilities in the areas of collaboration, clinical reasoning, professional development, interpersonal effectiveness, conflict management and teamwork.
Possessed strong problem solving, decision-making, and teaching skills.
Demonstrated ability to function autonomously in an advanced practice role.
Support and participate in research to improve practice and client outcomes.
Demonstrated skills in computer and database management skills.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
