Job Summary
This position works within the Nurse Practitioner's (NP) scope of practice in the following category of practice: Adult or Family All Ages. This is an advanced practice role providing professional, analytical and an autonomous comprehensive range of health services to clients and patients. The NP functions as an autonomous, professional member of the hematology and NL Cell Therapy and Transplant Program. The NP participates in interdisciplinary and independent clinics, caring for both patients with Hematological Malignancy as well as those who are preparing for and have undergone a Stem Cell Transplant. The NP provides a comprehensive range of health services to the Hematology and NL Cell Therapy and Transplant Program patient population such as: health assessments and diagnosis of diseases, disorders and conditions; diagnosis, treatment and management of post-chemotherapy and post-transplant complications; treatment and management of acute and chronic illnesses, selection of appropriate patients for stem cell transplant and subsequent transplant preparation, including patient education; assessing and monitoring patients undergoing chemotherapy. This is a central role that works collaboratively within the inter-professional team based on needs identified and through ongoing assessment and monitoring of clients in the Hematology/Oncology division within the Medicine program.
Job Demands

Constantly moves, lifts, or operates equipment/machinery up to 10 lbs. and regularly is required to lift/move equipment, books, and supplies. Occasionally, may have to reposition a patient over 50 lbs.
Physical effort also includes regular sitting to conduct patient histories, performing work on the computer and when assessing patients, regularly stands or walks.
When performing procedures, regularly uses fine finger/precision work and hand tools (i.e. medical instruments, computer mouse, stethoscope, dopplers, etc.) requiring accurate control and steadiness.
Visual concentration is required when performing physical assessment and procedures, completing charts/reports, observing patients, reading equipment/monitors, and completing work-related correspondence on the computer.
Job Qualifications
Completion of an approved/recognized Nurse Practitioner program is required.
Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of NL and Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a Nurse Practitioner (Adult or Family All Ages) with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador.
A minimum of five (5) years clinical nursing experience in the last seven (7) years in acute care medicine is required. Hematology/oncology experience is an asset.
Current in BLS is required.
Current certification in ACLS is an asset or will be required to fulfill this requirement upon acceptance of the position.
Chemotherapy Certification is an asset or will be required to fulfill this requirement upon acceptance of the position.
CNA Certification in Oncology is an asset or will be required to fulfill this requirement upon acceptance of the position.
Possessed strong abilities in the areas of collaboration, clinical reasoning, professional development, interpersonal effectiveness, conflict management and teamwork.
Demonstrated progressive clinical leadership skills.
Possessed strong communication, problem solving, decision-making, and teaching skills.
Demonstrated ability to function autonomously in an advanced practice role.
Support and participate in research to improve practice and client outcomes.
Demonstrated skills in computer and database management skills.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
