Job Summary
The Digital Communications Manager provides strategic communications advice in support of the organization's vision and has experience advising senior leaders; managing complex communications issues; and leading projects and large-scale public and corporate events. The incumbent initiates, develops, researches, executes, manages and evaluates communications plans and strategies for a range of projects, issues, events and other initiatives.
The Digital Communications Manager has day-to-day responsibility for assessing, initiating, planning, developing and maintaining a suite of digital communications channels and tools that assist the organization in effectively communicating key measures to its many internal and external stakeholders. The manager is an expert writer who has the ability to grasp complex medical and technical information and communicate it in an easy-to-understand manner. The role requires the ability to write compelling materials for print and electronic media, including speeches and other communications materials, as well as the technical aptitude to manage social media platforms, apps, information screens, the Intranet and NL Health Services corporate website, to understand user experience and visual communication principles and to liaise with technical staff. The manager works with confidential information and balances competing priorities and timelines in a fast-paced environment. The incumbent participates on several committees; liaises with partners on joint communications initiatives; and seeks opportunities to proactively promote the organization's positive stories.
This manager reports to the executive lead for communications and works closely with other members of the communications department within a small team environment. The manager must have the ability to lead work independently, multi-task, work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, and adapt to changing needs. The manager acts with integrity, possesses good judgement and exemplifies NL Health Services corporate values. The manager should have the ability to work outside of regular working hours and to travel to other sites, as required.
Job Qualifications
Education
Successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree in communications, public relations or journalism is required.
Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in the communications or public relations field is required.
Experience managing a wide range of digital communications platforms, including WordPress and other content management systems, social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube is required.
Familiarity with Google Analytics and Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.
Experience working in communications with internal and external stakeholders is required.
Experience working in a leadership role is an asset.
Considerable project management experience is preferred.
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
Knowledge and understanding of corporate communications and the health-care system is required.
Demonstrated strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
Demonstrated superior writing and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to lead work independently, multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and meet tight deadlines while adapting to changing needs.
Ability to establish positive and productive working relationships with diverse groups of internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrate strong writing skills and ability to produce a wide range of communications materials.
Ability to write for, and produce videos, would be considered an asset.
Ability to gather, analyze and report metrics and usage data would be considered an asset.
