Eastern Health is currently seeking applications for Personal Care Attendants in both Long Term Care and Acute Care facilities.

Job Summary
Personal Care Attendants (PCA) are responsible for providing support to patients/residents in all aspects of daily living through companionship, physical, spiritual, and psychosocial care. The incumbent will work in collaboration with all members of the interdisciplinary care team to achieve resident-centered objectives. The incumbent will perform duties related to all aspects of the patients'/residents' personal needs (ie., meals, bathing, mobility assistance, etc.), providing input to the interdisciplinary team, escorting patients/residents to appointments, and other related duties.

Job Demands

- Regularly lifts/moves objects/supplies up to 30 lb and stands and walks in the course of the job.
- Regularly requires a variety of body movement including bending, kneeling and stretching and pushing and pulling objects using light to medium force.
- Regularly inputs data while visual monitoring requiring higher than normal levels of attentiveness and attention to the health and safety of others in the provision of all forms of care.

Job Qualifications
Applicants should embrace a resident-focused care philosophy, have knowledge of long term care issues and be able to deal effectively with end-of-life issues. Knowledge of personal care issues as well as the ability to promote independent living are essential. Applicants must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, have the ability to effectively maintain working relationships with residents, staff, and families, and demonstrate knowledge and experience in computers, medical terminology and infection control principles.

- Graduation from High School or equivalency
- Graduation from a recognized Personal Care Attendant/Resident Support program or equivalency as determined by the Department of Human Resources
- Successful completion of BLS or equivalent
- Several years' recent experience in a health care or home care setting is required.
- A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
